Xbox Turns to Gamers for Games
Saturday, August 02, 2008
Microsoft is taking user-generated content to the Xbox.It has opened up its online Live Arcade so that amatuers can make and sell their own Xbox Live games, which other users can download.Theses user-developed games will be added to the Xbox Live Marketplace if they pass a peer review. Creators stand to get up to 70% of the total revenue from their games.
In my own view, I realised that User-generated content has been the buzzword on the Internet. Sites like YouTube and Facebook have grown business of such content.
With this move, Microsoft is also hoping that there will be an explosion of games on its Xbox Live Arcade that could help its video games business. For small games developers who have found it difficult to break into the games industry, the initiative will also open a new distribution channel for them
